Beginning in June, the Museum presents "Local Flavor", a three-course concert series showcasing emerging and inspiring San Diego singers, songwriters and musicians. The 2009 series features performances by Michael Tiernan (June 12), Sara Petite (July 10), and Tori Roze (August 14). Concerts start at 7 PM. Tickets are $10.
An award-winning music method for children ages 4 to 6 and parents, Music for Little Mozarts provides imaginative, enjoyable learning experiences through group music instruction. Sessions take place on July 11th, 18th, 25th, August 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM.
Enrollment is $110 per child; $100 for Musuem members.
From April 24, 2009 through March 31, 2010, ON! The Beginnings of the Electric Sound Generation focuses on the period between 1900 and 1965 when innovative thinkers such as Thaddeus Cahill, Leon Theremin, Lloyd Loar, Adolph Rickenbacker, George Beauchamp, Laurens Hammond, Alvino Rey, Leo Fender, Les Paul, and Paul Bigsby, worked to harness electrical energy to produce sounds and tones in a variety of electric and electro-acoustic musical instruments.
July 20 - 24, 2009: Students age 9 - 18 Learn to groove and perform on Drumset, Hand Drums, Hand Percussion, Bass, Guitar and Piano. Featured drummer, composer, author, and educator Ed Roscetti and staff will cover a variety of traditional and hybrid styles in both classroom and ensemble settings!
At 2 PM, Roger Siminoff presents The Lore of Loar, a look at the the life and work of Lloyd A. Loar, one of the most prominent musicians and acoustical engineers who pioneered the development of musical instruments in the early 1900s. Tickets are $10; free for members.
At 1 PM, join us for a concert and reception with esteemed Juilliard music professor and Liszt specialist, Jerome Lowenthal. Repertoire to include selections from Franz Liszt’s “Years of Pilgrimage.” This benefit concert is dedicated to the memory of Museum volunteer Doris Carp. Tickets are $45, $35 for Museum members.
